Interview with Sandeep Johri, VP of Strategy and Industry Solutions at HP

HP announced this week a suite of new products and services that enable businesses and governments to leverage the power of the cloud. In an exclusive interview this week with Sandeep Johri, VP of Strategy and Industry Solutions at Hewlett-Packard, Cloudtweaks discussed the latest announcement regarding Enterprise Cloud Solutions.

Johri is responsible for driving the overall strategy for HP’s Enterprise Business and also is responsible for driving the industry solutions across HP. He has an MBA from Stanford University, a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Wayne State University, Detroit, and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pune University, India.

Anthony Park:

Good Morning Sandeep. Thanks very much for meeting with Cloudtweaks. Please give us an overview of the announcement regarding cloud services.

Sandeep:

Our new services means HP can now offer a wide range of industry specific services to the CIO in Enterprise Level companies. The new suite of products and services enable large businesses and governments to leverage the power of the cloud while ensuring they meet required levels of security, performance and availability.

Anthony:

How do you define the Hybrid Model?

Sandeep:

Every CIO has a wide range of choices and platform options to select from: traditional, private clouds and public clouds. To gain the benefits of a hybrid environment, enterprises must have an IT delivery model that is both flexible across different sourcing options and is managed as an integrated technology environment.

Anthony:

Integrated in what way?

Sandeep:

HP’s Instant-On Enterprise product is designed, built and delivered in the form of technology-enabled services. Large Enterprises can select from across the full spectrum of delivery options. We can assist our customers in selecting the right service delivery model to meet their needs and help them integrate it into their specific IT infrastructure and environment.

Anthony:

HP has traditionally offered Enterprise Level private cloud services. How is this new bundled approach different?

Sandeep:

HP of course offers state-of-the-art data centers. All large Enterprises are governed by specified policies for service, performance, security and privacy and HP allows our customers to rapidly deploy and secure their platform with scalable IT capacity. HP is a leader in Converged Infrastructure and with the large menu of HP’s software portfolio in automation and management we can deliver all the IT resources necessary for a company to access a hybrid private cloud.

Our Cloud Product options are the most complete, integrated system to build, manage and consume services across private, public and hybrid cloud environments. It combines the strength of HP’s Converged Infrastructure with the established leadership of HP Cloud Service Automation software to deliver unified security, governance and compliance across applications, as well as physical and virtual infrastructure.

Anthony:

How have tradition IT environments reacted to the current options in Cloud computing.

Sandeep:

The HP Cloud options can help address the need for Enterprise Level companies to innovate and rapidly modify business processes. However if they are without a comprehensive and integrated approach with a trusted partner it will slow progress. Enterprise Level organizations are seeking a solution that addresses the complexity in managing private and public clouds yet work with the current in-house IT platforms and infrastructure.

Anthony:

Can you give us some specifics about your Instant On and Cloud Maps services?

Sandeep:

Our Cloud Maps are a simple to use navigation system, which can save an enormous of time when a company is trying to architect and build a new platform/infrastructure for applications and services. The HP Cloud Maps speed up the automation of this making selections and quickly bringing them online.

Anthony:

What type of selection parameters do you mean?

Sandeep:

Customers can select templates for their hardware platform needs, configure them and import automatically within minutes. We assist in guiding the workflows and scripts, which automate installation.

Anthony:

Historically, HP has had a large presence in Europe. Do you envision your clients there will utilize this suite of products?

Sandeep:

As you know EDS, now owned by HP has increased our presence in Europe and our business in the region continues to grow. We now have a presence in more than 120 major cities, serving both the Public Sector and the Private Sector. Our European clients will also be able to leverage as well as utilize all of our services in the same way as North American customers.

Anthony:

Thanks very much for time today Sandeep. Cloudtweaks appreciates your time and looks forward to hearing about HP’s progress in the Cloud during 2011.
