At present, the system offers support for Amazon EC2, allowing customers to deploy and manage open source and other applications in the cloud. BitNami.org offers free, ready-to-run native installers, virtual appliances and cloud templates for popular open source applications to tens of thousands of users every month and the new service is based on the existing platform, the company added.
BitNami Cloud Hosting also announced a special promotion to new subscribers, offering 3 months of free service for those who sign up for an account and activate it by entering their AWS credentials before the deadline. The offer is valid for new subscribers and beta testers who sign up before midnight Pacific time.
The new service features One Click Application Deployment, allowing customers to launch servers with one or more applications or development stacks from the BitNami library in one click. At present, the platform provides support for SugarCRM, Alfresco, JasperServer, Drupal, WordPress and many others.
Automatic backups and One Click Server Restores are available while server scaling is also an option. Customers can schedule automatic start and stop of servers with BitNami Cloud Hosting providing automatic monitoring out of the box. The system features Multi-Account Management, enabling users to manage applications deployed across several cloud accounts.
The company plans to add support for schedule server resizing in the near future with more options to be offered soon. Those options will include support for AWS regions different from U.S.-East region and other Linux distributions, as well as Windows. The new platform will also provide support for other clouds in addition to the planned launch of notifications for the server monitoring.
A closeup look at the new system.
The first thing that caught our attention when signing in is that its very well organized and easy to use.
You can easily manage and run everything through the Dashboard.
SERVER /APPLICATION SETUP
Now before setting up and testing the system it’s important to know that Bitnami Cloud runs within Amazons EC2 Infrastructure.
So you will need to create or have an account with AWS prior to getting started with secret key.
We’ve looked at a number of systems and this is one of the easiest and by far the quickest to setup WordPress.
It took about 3 minutes to log in, create a server and have a running copy of WordPress available.
The scalability in regards to how many servers and how much space to allocate for your account is extremely efficient and practical. This is a great feature for companies working on a tight budget or companies that need to scale quickly, efficiently and effortlessly.
So far this looks to be a very promising service!
