Amazon CloudWatch Services
Avail the multiple benefits of added functionality and lowered prices of Amazon CloudWatch services.
Amazon CloudWatch services assist you in marking a lead and have a distinctive edge over your competitors by letting you gain a pellucid visibility on resource utilization, operational health, and application performance. Without having to install additional software, you can retrieve statistics, data and graphs programmatically to assist you in troubleshooting, spotting trends, and taking automated action as per the cloud environment. Indeed, it lives to its name of being a fast, smart, reliable and flexible way to access and monitor your cloud assets.
Till now, Amazon CloudWatch had been providing comprehensive real time monitoring for significant AWS cloud resources such as the Amazon EC2 instances, Amazon RDS DB instances, Amazon EBS volumes and Elastic load balancers. But now, it has announced an extension in functionality of its services to enable you to collect and monitor custom application metrics significant to your business. In this way, you will be relieved from the requirement of setting up, maintaining, and scaling a separate monitoring infrastructure to retrieve vital statistics on metrics related to your custom applications.
Monitoring some of the metrics related to customer usage, application performance, and system health may be extremely essential in a professional setup. Keeping this in mind, Amazon CloudWatch worked up this service to let you have up-to-the-minute statistics on any of these technical and business related custom metrics simply by making use of an API call, AWS SDK, AWS Management Console, and command line tools. All custom application and system metrics such as the error rates, transaction volumes, completed requests, failed requests, bytes per request, and request latency can now be accessed at $0.50 per metric per month via Amazon CloudWatch.
Additionally, Amazon CloudWatch has announced a cut on its prices for the Detailed Monitoring of AWS EC2 instances. Effective from June 1, 2011, metric data would be provided at 1-minute frequency at $3.5 per instance per month. This rate shows a 65 % decrease in the previous rates of $0.015 per instance per hour that summed to around $10.5 per instance per month. The Detailed Monitoring for Amazon EC2 Instances is provided at 1-minute frequency as compared to the Free Basic Monitoring which has a 5-minute frequency.
Besides the changes, Amazon CloudWatch continues to provide all free of cost services like monitoring for Amazon EC2 Instances for 7 pre-selected metrics at 5-minute frequency, Amazon RDS DB instances for 4 pre-selected metrics at 1-minute frequency, Amazon EBS volumes for 8 pre-selected metrics at 5-minute frequency, and Elastic load balancers for 11 pre-selected metrics at 1-minute frequency. All these services are enabled on the registration of Amazon CloudWatch itself.
Furthermore, automatic notification by alarms is a very important aspect while monitoring cloud assets. With Amazon CloudWatch, you may set alarms at $0.10 per alarm per month to be notified or take automated actions whenever the concerned metric crosses the specific threshold set by you.
Targeted at developers and system administrators keen to gain an insight into their applications and services, this announcement will surely scale the sales of Amazon CloudWatch.
