Cloud Infographic – The 3D Printing Debate

3D Printing is an exciting and growing trend capturing the interest of millions. There has been much discussion on the topic amid growing concerns of the ethics as well as potential IP theft that may arise.

Gartner predicts,  “By 2016, 3D printing of tissues and organs (bioprinting) will cause a global debate about regulating the technology or banning it for both human and nonhuman use. Near Term Flag: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration or comparable agency in a developed nation that is charged with evaluating all medical proposals will introduce guidelines that prohibit the bioprinting of life-saving 3D printed organs and tissues without its prior approval by end of 2015…

Provided is an infographic discovered at: http://www.computersciencehub.org/3d-printing which shows us how far printing technology has come and where it could be heading.

Dropbox Slashes Its Prices – Adds New Features To Fight Competition

Dropbox Slashes Its Prices – Adds New Features To Fight Competition

Now customers of Dropbox are going to get more value for their money. As per today’s announcement from the Dropbox’s officials, their customers will now get one terabyte of storage space for just $10 bucks. The reason behind this being the growing competition between online storage companies in the technology domain.dropbox-logo

Initially, Dropbox users received 100 gigabytes for $10 and now they will be receiving 10 x that amount for the same price.  Though Dropbox was reluctant to reduce the prices in the past, it has now become a must with the competition from online tech giants such as Google, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft, etc. This has left Dropbox with not much scope except to lower their prices drastically.

Earlier this year, Google dropped their prices on their drive data storage from $50 to $10 for one terabyte space and now Dropbox is left no other choice except to slash their prices. According to Dropbox’s Chief Operating Officer Dennis Woodside, “We pioneered the space and now our competitors have realized it’s important and have started to focus on it.”

Woodside says that, “all the tech giants are trying to attract consumers and lock them to their devices and applications, whereas, Dropbox allows the users to use their files and sync them into their mobiles, desktops, laptops and tablets as well. He says that he is pretty much confident on their model and users will soon realize it.”

With 300 million users around the world, Dropbox initially seemed to be one of the best IPO’s just a few months ago. But, the so called tech giants are giving them a hard time by offering massive amounts of storage space at a minimal price.

According to Forrester Research analyst Ted Schadler, “Dropbox has 300 million users and these are not casual users. They are deeply embedded in the service,” Schadler said. “People say you can just move your stuff out of Dropbox and drag and drop it somewhere else. I don’t think that’s true. I think Dropbox has momentum. Dropbox has first mover advantage and it has executed on that really well.”

It might not be a big deal for tech giants like Google and Microsoft to cut prices heavily to attract more users. But, for companies like Dropbox this can prove to be a real hard blow. In order to put themselves in a better position, Dropbox is now adding special security and attractive additional features to their “pro” plan. This is an attempt to place themselves in a better position compared to their competitors.

Cost of the Cloud: Is It Really Worth It?

Cost of the Cloud: Is It Really Worth It?

Cost of the Cloud Cloud computing is more than just another storage tier. Imagine if you’re able to scale up 10x just to handle seasonal volumes or rely on a true disaster-recovery solution without upfront capital. Box.net, Amazon Cloud Drive The online (or cloud) storage business has always been a really interesting industry. All three of these factors remain today, but with…
