Cloud Infographic – Human Error And Data Breaches
The ICO’s data reveals that the cost of data breaches caused by information being disclosed to the wrong recipient via unencrypted email, fax and hand delivery amounting to just under $3 Million US Dollars or £1.8 m.
With the health sector experiencing a more than 100% increase in data breaches April to June 2013 and April to June 2014, it comes as little surprise that Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust has received the largest fine to date: £325,000. This contributes to the £1.3m total for the sector as a whole.
We can expect an increase in fines handed out in 2015 as Human Error and Data Breaches continue to rise with unfortunately no immediate end in sight.
