According to Gartner, the worldwide public cloud services market is projected to grow by 18% this year. But the SaaS (Software as a Service) portion of the market is set to exceed that, growing by over 20%. So we decided to put together a list (in no particular order) of some noteworthy SaaS providers to provide you with an idea.
Slack (Searchable Log of All Conversation and Knowledge) is cloud based service that allows for team conversations, collaboration, and workflow management within an office or across the globe. Slack started life as an internal platform for Tiny Speck during the development of an online game. However, they decided to market the product following the games completion and 8,000 customers signed up within 24 hours of the launch in August 2013. By 2015 they had more than a million daily users and as of February 2017 they had grown to five million daily users.
RingCentral, Inc. is a global provider of cloud unified communications and collaboration solutions that serve some 350,000 companies. They provide business software that unifies voice, video, team messaging and collaboration, SMS, conferencing and online meetings, contact center, and fax, allowing distributed work forces to communicate, collaborate and connect from anywhere in the world. Their VoIP services allow companies to grow their business, without concern for communications hardware.
Workday, Inc. was founded in 2005 by David Duffield and Aneel Bhusri, who both left PeopleSoft after Oracle’s takeover in 2005. Much like Oracle and SAP they provide cloud-based financial management and human capital management software and in the first quarter of last year, announced that annual revenue had exceeded $1 billion dollars for the first time!
Oracle Corporation in Redwood Shores, California, is a global computer technology firm with more than 420,000 customers across 145 countries. Oracle specializes primarily in both developing and marketing database software and technology, cloud engineered systems and enterprise software product, including its own brands of Database Management systems. They also offer a suite of business applications that can help with financials, manufacturing, customer relationship management (CRM), entERPrise resource planning (ERP) and human resource management, Oracle Beehive (team collaboration software) and Oracle Secure Enterprise Search (SES), that allows a search across multiple locations and systems.
Salesforce, now with a market capitalization above $61 billion, are the world’s largest CRM platform, with the entire service provided via the cloud. Based out of San Francisco, California, these cloud giants pioneered the SaaS (Software as a Service) market. Their offer sales, marketing, finance, and analytics software, as well as virtual desks, and social networking with colleagues and customers.
BroadSoft has been a market leader in cloud communications, team collaboration and contact center solutions since 1998. They serve over 500 firms worldwide, supporting millions of subscribers, providing cloud based communications solutions on their BroadWorks and BroadCloud platforms.
Quickbooks, “the world’s number 1 accounting solution”, is an accounting software package from Intuit. They offer on premises and cloud based accounting solutions to manage bills, payments, and pall roll functions for mostly small and medium sized businesses, including a new blockchain integration!
The San Francisco based file storage/sharing software company Dropbox now serves 500 million people and 200,000 businesses around the world. Dropbox was founded in 2007, by MIT students Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi, as a small startup company and has since grown into a global enterprise offering cloud storage, file synchronization, personal cloud, and client software. It provides easy to use cloud storage for businesses and personal users that remains secure with AES-256 bit encryption and two-step verification.
