Interactive and Immersive Visual Platforms: The Next Optimization Wave

By Jennifer Klostermann

The Next Wave in Cloud Management and Optimization

Less than a decade ago the first distributed blockchain was implemented and only a few years ago the wider value of blockchain was recognized, causing major upheavals in the financial sector and disrupting many of our more traditional establishments of banking, insurance, and law.

Just as mainstream blockchain implementations are disrupting several verticals, immersive experiences too are changing how we interact with our world. Cloud forerunners believe such immersive tools will soon be commonplace, further aiding self-service cloud monitoring and management, with advantages sufficient to trounce lagging competitors.

Interactive and Visual Cloud Management Tools Engender Success

Today’s cloud management tools are much lauded, providing users with enough range to tailor off-the-shelf products into bespoke packages; SaaS-based models ensure small startups can afford some of the very best services and compete with industry giants as they grow.

Some of the widely used cloud management and optimization tools available today track metrics, automate tasks, collect and monitor logs, and provide resource management as well as marketing and training facilities; if you have a need, there’s a choice of platforms that cater to it.

With the necessary information and insight, implementing cloud managed services typically results in cost savings, improved budgeting, strong and secure infrastructures, and tools and services that are never out of date.

Unfortunately, an inadequate grasp of this technology quickly turns these advantages into cumbersome and often wasteful chaos. Then the disparate benefits and drawbacks of each of these tools along with complex dashboards and contrasting resources make it even more difficult to understand what’s happening in the cloud. Along with the choice of tools and services comes the decision between public, private, and hybrid cloud. Together they add more complexity to cloud management.

Finding the most effective solution is often easier said than done. An interactive, intelligent and visual console for cloud management is the ideal solution.

Why Bring Immersive Experiences to Cloud Management?

The merits of today’s advanced cloud computing have permeated our thinking. But as it is still a fairly abstract market, many organizations look on with confusion and require additional expertise when managing their cloud infrastructure. It is here that immersive experiences — the likes of real-time strategy (RTS) -based Gaming interfaces that we find in SimCity or Minecraft — can provide a viewable context and quick decision-making insights that make cloud management so much simpler and smarter.

Imagine a cloud management system able to render all your cloud resources from multiple services spanning multiple cloud platforms on a pane of glass in real-time, visually indicating resource connections and throwing insights as you navigate through the immersive interface. Such a revolutionary platform will disrupt the whole cloud management industry,” says Pradeep Kumar, CEO and Co-Founder of TotalCloud.io. “With the current scenario, engineers need to tackle several dashboards; the industry needs an immersive platform that renders all the cloud resources and instructs them to self-heal with minimal human intervention.”

Take, for Instance, the leading RTS game StarCraft. Here gaming-AI uses behavioral tree model to strategize and control hundreds of autonomous gaming characters, and along with dynamic behavior maximizes its chances of winning against a human player. Using the same analogy, a platform can be built that infuses cloud management best practices with behavioral-tree concepts that dynamically control changing cloud resources or services to behave in a certain manner, in a certain scenario, optimize itself, and take control of itself like a virtual cloud engineer.

Such an interface offering immersive experience not only provides enhanced but simplified visibility into complete cloud infrastructure and additionally self-sustains itself with auto-corrective actions.

Self-Healing AI a Trend in 2018

Cloud managed service platforms will continue to evolve offering robust infrastructure, centralized services, and many new assistances still being imagined. AI and virtual reality, however, will likely shake up the landscape in the not too distant future. According to Gartner, artificial intelligence, with its ability to advanced systems to self-healing, self-guiding, and pre-emptive devices, will be a trend in 2018, and it is increasingly observed as a basic component of many applications.

With machine intelligence helping pick out data anomalies, automating necessary iterating tasks, and detecting potential failures, platforms will be imbued with self-healing capabilities, correcting glitches before they even impact an organization. It’s no wonder that self-driving cloud platforms, self-healing analytics, and AI capabilities are sparking interest; in the next few years we can expect much aid from interactive and immersive visual platforms — so much so that AI can teach cloud to self-heal itself in any model, be it public, private, hybrid or combination of all of these. We foresee that soon a day will arrive when cloud usage and management will be democratized and intelligent immersive cloud management platforms will act as a catalyst to it.
