cloudtweaks.com

Plain-language summary: We use cookies primarily through Google Analytics to understand how our content is read. We do not use cookies to identify you personally or to serve targeted advertising. Some third-party plugins on our site may also set cookies; we are in the process of auditing these and will update this policy as we complete that review.

01 What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently and to provide information to site owners. Cookies are not programs and cannot carry viruses or install software on your device.

Some cookies are set directly by CloudTweaks ("first-party cookies"). Others are set by third-party services that appear on our pages ("third-party cookies").

02 How We Use Cookies

CloudTweaks uses cookies in the following ways:

  • Analytics — to understand how visitors use our site, which articles perform well, and how readers navigate between pages. This is handled by Google Analytics.
  • Functionality — certain WordPress features may use cookies to maintain basic site functions such as remembering your preferences or keeping a session active if you are a logged-in contributor.

We do not use cookies to serve targeted or behavioural advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles from cookies set on this site.

03 Google Analytics Cookies

Our primary use of cookies is through Google Analytics, which helps us measure traffic and usage patterns. These cookies collect anonymised, aggregated data only — they do not identify you as an individual.

Cookie NameSet ByPurposeDuration
_gaGoogle AnalyticsDistinguishes unique visitors. Stores an anonymised client identifier.2 years
_ga_XXXXXXXXGoogle AnalyticsUsed to persist session state for GA4 measurement.2 years
_gidGoogle AnalyticsDistinguishes users. Resets each day to count daily unique visitors.24 hours
_gatGoogle AnalyticsUsed to throttle request rate, limiting data collection on high-traffic sites.1 minute

For full details on how Google uses this data, see Google's Privacy Policy. You can also opt out of Google Analytics specifically using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

04 WordPress and Plugin Cookies

CloudTweaks is built on WordPress. WordPress itself may set a small number of cookies related to site functionality, particularly if you are logged in as a registered user or contributor.

Beyond WordPress core, we use a number of third-party plugins to deliver various site features. We want to be transparent: we are currently conducting an audit of every active plugin to determine exactly what cookies, if any, each one sets. Until that review is complete, we cannot provide an exhaustive list of all plugin-related cookies.

Common categories of cookies that plugins on a site like ours may set include:

  • Caching cookies — set by performance plugins to deliver faster page loads. These are typically session-length and contain no personal data.
  • Security cookies — set by firewall or anti-spam plugins (such as those that protect contact forms) to distinguish human visitors from bots.
  • Social sharing cookies — if social sharing buttons are embedded on a page, the respective platforms (LinkedIn, X, Facebook, etc.) may set their own cookies when those elements load.
  • Embedded media cookies — if a page contains an embedded video or podcast player, the hosting platform may set cookies when the player loads.

We will update this section with a full table of plugin cookies as our audit progresses. If you have a specific question about a cookie you have observed on this site, please contact us.

05 Managing and Disabling Cookies

You have the right to accept or refuse cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser settings to decline cookies if you prefer. Note that disabling cookies may affect the performance or functionality of some parts of cloudtweaks.com.

Instructions for managing cookies in common browsers:

  • Google Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Mozilla Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari — Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Microsoft Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies

You can also use browser extensions such as uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger to control which third-party scripts and cookies load on any site.

06 Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is currently no universal technical standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals, and Google Analytics does not change its behaviour based on them. If you wish to opt out of Google Analytics tracking, please use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

07 Changes to This Policy

We will update this Cookie Policy as we complete our plugin audit and as our use of technologies changes. The "Last reviewed" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. We encourage you to check back periodically.
